Yes. Existing GIF sources are optimized as GIF files, so animated GIFs remain GIF output after compression.
Will GIF animation be preserved?
Animation is preserved for GIF source files. Raster images converted to GIF elsewhere in the tool become static single-frame GIFs.
Why are GIF files so large?
GIF stores animation inefficiently compared with modern formats. Long duration, large dimensions, and many colors all increase file size.
